Published Jun 05, 2020Queen guitarist Brian May's story of ripping his ass while gardening still leads the pack of strangest isolation injury stories, but Cate Blanchett is giving him a run for his money after a recent near miss with a chainsaw.
Blanchett shared the story of her close shave during a recent appearance on A Podcast of One's Own with Julia Gillard, hosted by the former prime minister of the star's native Australia.
"I had a bit of a chainsaw accident yesterday, which sounds very, very exciting, but it wasn't," Blanchett explained. "Apart from the little nick to my head, we're fine."
Gillard warned, "Be very careful with that chainsaw. You've got a very famous head. I don't think people want to see any nicks taken out of it."
Blanchett explained that her isolation hours in the U.K. have largely been spent taking after her four children, who hopefully weren't wielding the chainsaw at the time of the accident.
"I've taken a year off, being a working mother of four," she said. "My eldest son was doing his A-Levels, so I took the year off essentially to be with him and support him through that exam period. And then all of that exam stuff evaporated and I'm left with an 18-year-old who doesn't want to have anything to do with me, so it's a little bit discombobulating. But it's a high-class problem. We're all well."
Last year, Blanchett starred in Richard Linklater's Where'd You Go, Bernadette.
