Published Aug 14, 2014At War with Reality, the long-awaited follow-up to Swedish death metal greats At the Gates' 1995 classic Slaughter of the Soul, has finally been given a release date. Through the band's new label, Century Media, their first album in nearly 20 years lands October 28 in North America and a day earlier overseas.
The news was delivered today (August 14) on the band's Facebook account, with vocalist Tomas Lindberg confirming that work has been completed on the record. Though a tracklisting has yet to be offered up, photos delivered by the band revealed that recording was done at Göteborg's Studio Fredman, with Jens Bogren taking on mixing duties at Örebro's Fascination Street Studios. As previously reported, the band have been working on the LP since 2013.
"It's by far the most challenging record that we have made, but it's an honest album and I think that you will feel that it is faithful to the legacy of At the Gates," Lindberg said in a statement. "We have, through the process of creating it, been true to ourselves and our art. From hearing the first demos that Anders [Björler] presented to the band last summer, through the extensive stages of songwriting, pre-production, rehearsals, recording and mixing, we now finally got the finished album in our hands. We are very happy to have managed to produce an album that we feel is truly 'us.'"
Though details are pending and song streams have yet to be offered, the band had previously whipped up a few video teasers earlier in the year. You'll find them down below.
