Published Aug 01, 2015Lots of weird and wonderful things happen at music festivals, but losing both of your shoes seems like a new one. PUP guitarist Steve Sladkowski, fittingly sporting a Metz t-shirt, paused his band's barrage only briefly for the crowd to find the rightful owner. It was clear that PUP and the SappyFest crowd were ready to tear the Mainstage tent down during the closing set of the first night.
PUP has had mounting buzz for a couple of years and interspersed tight renditions of tracks from their self-titled debut album with new songs from their forthcoming release. The band stated near the end of their set that they don't do encores, but there was still room for an encore-worthy cover of the Beastie Boys' "Sabotage" to end the night.
Self-disparaging at every turn, there's a reason PUP's biggest fans don't think much about the acronym standing for Pathetic Use Of Potential.
