Published Feb 13, 2017Solange won the Grammy for Best R&B Performance with "Cranes in the Sky" yesterday (February 12), but she's not letting the ceremony off the hook for an oversight in another category.
Minutes after Beyoncé lost Album of the Year to Adele last night, Solange tweeted a link to Frank Ocean's scathing Tumblr takedown of the Grammys.

Ocean originally shared the post over the weekend, condemning the Grammys as culturally biased and unwilling to listen and "believe the people" — specifically citing their 2016 decision to award Taylor Swift's 1989 the Album of the Year trophy over Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly as "hands down one of the most 'faulty' TV moments I've seen."
Solange shared the post via Twitter with a simple caption of "wuddup Frank," leaving many to interpret her support for Ocean's message as a defence of her older sister's latest album. Drawing comparisons to last year's politically and culturally off-key Swift victory, Lemonade lost the 2017 Album of the Year award to Adele's 25 — a decision that Adele herself didn't feel was right.
In her acceptance speech, Adele addressed the misguided honour, saying, "I can't possibly accept this award… my artist of my life is Beyoncé, and this album for me — the Lemonade album — is so monumental, and so well thought out and so beautiful and soul-bearing, and we all got to see another side to you that you don't always let us see, and we appreciate it, all us artists here, we fucking adore you. You are our light."
She went on to praise Bey for empowering her (and "her black friends") to stand up for themselves, leaving a teary-eyed Bey watching from the audience. See the emotional exchange below.
Prior to sharing Ocean's Tumblr post, Solange thanked her followers for their well wishes regarding her win, but also criticized the ceremony's producers for not giving her a platform to speak. She wrote: "If I would've gotten to accept this, I would've said black girls/women ARE grammys mothafuckaaaa."
Thank you for your well wishes. Gratitude.— solange knowles (@solangeknowles) February 13, 2017
