Published May 06, 2020Weezer's metal-inspired new album Van Weezer was supposed to be coming out this month, but it's been delayed due to coronavirus lockdowns. In the meantime, the band have paid tribute to essential frontline workers with a video for the new track "Hero."
As with last year's "The End of the Game" the new song puts heavy guitars front and centre — although there's not all that much shredding, and it's pretty much a straight-up classic Weezer power-pop tune.
The accompanying video is a very cute tribute to healthcare workers, made in collaboration with fans. We see frontman Rivers Cuomo writing a note, which then gets passed out of the frame by dozens of fans, before we finally get to read what it says in the final moments.
Check it out below. Weezer are launching the video by teaming up with food delivery company Postmates to send meals to nurses at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles.
A new date for the Suzy Shinn-produced Van Weezer will be announced soon.
