Jason Schreurs Announces 'Scream Therapy: A Punk Journey Through Mental Health' Memoir
It's out this spring through Mansfield Press
Published Feb 09, 2023Canadian journalist Jason Schreurs has announced a new book about the intersection of punk and mental health. Scream Therapy: A Punk Journey Through Mental Health is out on May 1 via Mansfield Press.
The book is a memoir about Schreurs's own experiences with childhood trauma and being diagnosed as bipolar, and how punk music has served as a form of therapy. Scream Therapy takes its name from the punk podcast that Schreurs hosts.
A synopsis reads, "In Scream Therapy, musicians, advocates, activists, and fans present the punk subculture as a catalyst for mental health — a place where it's okay to not be okay. Schreurs's attitude and conviction pogo-dance off the page as he and others in the book claw through their worst days, seek stability, and support each other to live better lives, all to the soundtrack of pissed-off music."
More information about Scream Therapy, including pre-orders and merch, can be found at the book's website.
Schreurs is based in Powell River, BC, and was a long-time contributor to Exclaim!, writing about — you guessed it — punk rock.
